Our pastor is Rev. Cheryl Broome who comes to us after a six-year stint at Hyde Park UMC in Austin.

Although Cheryl is not native to Texas she got here as soon as she could! Arriving in Texas in 1973 she attended and later graduated from John Marshall High School. She settled in to life and work in San Antonio, where she met and married Kevin Broome in 1986. She stayed very busy working full time while finishing her undergraduate degree in business from Texas State University and starting a family. For 15 years she worked in the secular (a.k.a. the “real”) world at a large insurance company before being called to ministry.

In 1999 Cheryl began her studies at Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary graduating in 2002 with a Master’s in Divinity. Since then she has begun her “second career” as a United Methodist pastor serving at First United Methodist Church in Elgin (student pastor), St. Luke United Methodist Church in San Angelo and most recently Hyde Park United Methodist Church in Austin, TX.

Her business background along with her theological training allows Cheryl to offer the church gifts in both spiritual and business acumen. During her six year ministry at Hyde Park she has been actively engaged in congregational transformation. She has led seminars in prayer, women’s ministries, and transformational leadership. She is active in Emmaus, Chrysalis and Kairos ministries.

Cheryl has two sons; Matthew, 22 years old, a student at Angelo State University and Eric, 18, a student at Austin Community College beginning this fall. She is excited to be at The Rock UMC and looks forward to getting to know you!
